The Galaxy are focused on two major goals in 2023. Firstly, they want to build on the finish to last season. Which brings us to Galaxy’s biggest goal, finding consistency.

A few newcomers joining the Wave for Season 2. San Diego Wave FC began preseason training camp 2023 in earnest on Monday, and released their initial 25-player roster to get things started.
Most of the names are familiar this time around, which isn’t surprising considering what a great season San Diego had in their inaugural campaign, reaching the semifinals in the playoffs before bowing out to the eventual champion. Casey Stoney is back as head coach and the roster features 18 players returning from the 2022 squad, including all of the regular starters from last season.
New to the group are the three free agent signings — midfielders Danielle Colaprico and Meggie Dougherty Howard and forward Rachel Hill. In addition, there are the three 2023 NWSL Draft picks — midfielders Sierra Enge and Giovanna DeMarco and goalkeeper Lauren Brzykcy, who all appear to be trialing to earn a professional contract at this point.

Winter weather rains on Rose Bowl El Trafico curtainraiser. Southern California is in the midst of an unprecedented winter storm in modern history, and with it comes a damper on the start of the 2023 MLS season locally, as Saturday’s blockbuster El Trafico clash between the LA Galaxy and LAFC has been postponed due to high risk of inclement weather during the event, including thunderstorms in Pasadena. A make-up date has not yet been announced.
The game was the tentpole match of the opening weekend in MLS, a rivalry clash in a historic venue that was aiming to break the standalone MLS attendance record set last year in Charlotte FC’s Bank of America Stadium, for their game against the Galaxy. Depth option officially back on two-year deal. The LA Galaxy announced on Tuesday they have re-signed defender Eriq Zavaleta. The player has been signed to a two-year deal that will run through the 2024 season.
Zavaleta, 30, made six appearances in all competitions, five starts, for LA in 2022, his first season with the club. He was a depth option for Greg Vanney’s squad, but was also limited by injuries at times last season. An experienced center back, Zavaleta had previously featured for the Seattle Sounders, Chivas USA, and Toronto FC, where he was a key part of the 2017 treble-winning season with Vanney. Zavaleta is also an El Salvador international.
Zavaleta joins Sega Coulibaly, Martin Caceres, Chris Mavinga, Jalen Neal and Marcus Ferkranus on the center back corps for the Galaxy heading into the 2023 season. My hunch is that will be it for the group, but you never know.
